About the Role: The VP, Product Management - Payments is a critical product leadership role responsible for defining and executing the product vision for Billtrust’s payments capabilities. You will partner closely with the SVP of Payments, who owns the end-to-end payments business, serving as the product counterpart who translates business strategy and customer needs into a differentiated payments roadmap. You will leverage AI tools and co-worker agents to synthesize market signals, customer feedback, and competitive intelligence, focusing your expertise on the strategic prioritization and cross-functional alignment that only a seasoned payments domain expert can provide. Billtrust processes over $1 trillion in invoice dollars across a proprietary network of 13 million buyers, and payments is the engine that makes that scale matter. This role owns the product strategy for how businesses send and receive payments across the AR lifecycle, including how we deepen buyer-side engagement to drive network value that competitors cannot replicate. B2B payments are structurally different from consumer or general SaaS payments: longer settlement windows, complex remittance matching, virtual card economics, and buyer-supplier network dynamics require genuine domain expertise. You will report directly to the Chief Product Officer and lead a team of product managers building next-generation payment experiences that help finance leaders get paid faster and with greater control. What You'll Do: Payments Product Strategy • Define the multi-year product vision and roadmap for Billtrust’s payments platform, spanning payment acceptance, processing, network connectivity, and reconciliation. • Develop the strategy for growing buyer-side engagement within the Billtrust Payment Network, deepening network effects that create durable competitive advantage across the supplier-buyer payment relationship. • Leverage AI-powered market analysis tools to identify emerging payment trends, regulatory shifts, and competitive threats, translating insights into decisive product bets. • Partner with the CPO to align the payments roadmap with Billtrust's broader platform strategy and customer growth objectives. • Other duties as assigned. Product Execution & Delivery • Lead a team of product managers across the payments portfolio, setting clear goals, cultivating AI-first working habits, and driving accountability for outcome-based delivery. • Work closely with Engineering and Design to translate complex payments domain requirements into well-scoped, technically sound product specs. • Establish and monitor key product health metrics — payment success rates, authorization performance, time-to-settle — using AI dashboards to surface issues before customers notice. Customer & Market Engagement • Engage directly with enterprise customers, payments networks, and banking partners to gather deep domain insight and validate product direction. • Represent the payments product externally at industry events, analyst briefings, and strategic partner conversations, positioning Billtrust as the leader in B2B payments. • Champion the voice of the customer internally, ensuring payment friction points are surfaced, prioritized, and resolved with urgency. Cross-Functional Leadership • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing to develop compelling go-to-market strategies for new payments capabilities. • Partner with Legal, Compliance, and Finance to navigate the regulatory landscape — PCI DSS, card network rules, ACH guidelines — and build compliant-by-design products. • Align roadmap cadence and shared requirements with the Cash Application product team, ensuring payment data — including remittance detail and payment method signals — flows cleanly into downstream matching and reconciliation workflows. • Partner across Billtrust’s Platform and Software product teams to ensure payments capabilities are well-integrated into the broader product platform, shared services are leveraged effectively, and roadmap dependencies are surfaced and resolved early. • Drive AI adoption across the payments product team, with specific focus on payments-relevant applications: exception handling in cash application, authorization optimization, fraud signal detection, and remittance data enrichment. What You'll Bring: Required Skills: • 10+ years of experience in payments product management, with deep domain expertise across payment methods, processing networks, and B2B payment workflows. • Demonstrated track record leading payments product teams at a fintech, payments processor, or enterprise software company. • Fluency in payments infrastructure — card rails, ACH, RTP, virtual cards, network tokenization — and the ability to translate technical complexity into customer value. • Experience setting AI strategy and championing AI-first culture at scale; proven ability to embed AI tooling into product team workflows. • Strong executive presence with experience influencing C-suite stakeholders, strategic partners, and enterprise customers. • History of delivering payments products at scale, with ownership of key metrics like authorization rates, processing costs, and payment conversion. • Experience in B2B payments environments where settlement timing, remittance data quality, and buyer-supplier payment terms shape product decisions — not just payment volume or conversion rate optimization. Preferred Skills: • Hands-on product experience in accounts receivable, Order to Cash, or collections workflows — including familiarity with how payment method, remittance detail, and settlement speed affect downstream cash application and reconciliation. • Familiarity with payment compliance frameworks including PCI DSS, Nacha rules, and card network operating regulations. • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., LLM-based research agents, AI roadmap tools) to accelerate product discovery and stakeholder communication. • MBA or equivalent strategic business experience. The expected base salary range for this position is $236,000 - $250,000 annually. Compensation may vary depending on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for extra incentives like equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses. Further details will be provided by our Talent Acquisition team during the interview process. What You’ll Get At Billtrust, we believe your total rewards should reflect the impact you make. Our benefits package includes comprehensive health coverage, competitive retirement, generous PTO and parental leave, flexible work options, and meaningful investment in your professional development. We’re building something special and we want you to feel supported while doing it. At Billtrust, we value an equitable and inclusive work environment and strive to build and foster diverse teams. Even if your work experience doesn’t align exactly with the position requirements, we’d still love to hear from you. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles. We aspire to be the best and take pride in our work. When we fall short, we own it and come back stronger. About the Role: The VP, Applied Intelligence is a Senior leadership role accountable for setting the AI vision that defines Billtrust’s next chapter. You will harness AI tools, co-worker agents, and frontier intelligence capabilities to architect a product strategy that reshapes how 2,600+ global customers experience the future of B2B finance — bringing the irreplaceable human judgment required to turn transformative technology into durable competitive advantage. Reporting to the Chief Product Officer and operating as a key member of the Product leadership team, you will own Billtrust’s Applied Intelligence agenda end-to-end: setting the multi-year roadmap, building and inspiring a world-class organization, and serving as the company’s most senior external voice on AI-powered B2B finance. This role demands more than AI expertise alone. It requires a genuine understanding of how money moves through complex B2B relationships, and what it takes to replace manual, error-prone financial workflows with intelligent automation that customers trust with their cash. This is an executive mandate to define what an AI-first AR platform looks like, and to make it real at scale. What You'll Do: AI Strategy & Executive Leadership • Set Billtrust’s Applied Intelligence vision and multi-year product roadmap, establishing the strategic framework that guides how AI shapes every layer of the AR lifecycle. • Serve as a member of the Product leadership team, shaping company-wide product strategy and influencing investment priorities at the executive level. • Define the operating model for how Applied Intelligence is built, deployed, and continuously improved — including governance, evaluation standards, and responsible AI principles. • Other duties as assigned. Product Development & AI Innovation • Own the end-to-end product lifecycle for Billtrust’s AI-powered capabilities — from opportunity identification and experimentation through scaled delivery and ongoing iteration — leveraging co-worker agents and AI tooling to compress timelines and raise quality. • Establish rigorous frameworks for evaluating AI product performance, accuracy, reliability, and customer safety before and after deployment. • Drive a culture of bold experimentation: define hypotheses, design tests, interpret results, and champion the learnings that most accelerate product-market fit. • Partner with Engineering, Data Science, and Design to translate frontier AI capabilities into intuitive, production-grade customer experiences. Organization Building & Talent • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-caliber team of product managers and applied AI practitioners, building one of the most sought-after AI product organizations in B2B fintech. • Champion AI-first ways of working across the entire Product organization, setting the standard for how leaders and ICs leverage AI tools to amplify impact. • Create clear career pathways and a coaching culture that elevates team members into future leaders of AI product development. Market Presence & Commercial Impact • Serve as Billtrust’s most senior external voice on Applied Intelligence — representing the company at industry events, in analyst conversations, and in strategic customer and partner engagements. • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success to ensure AI differentiation is clearly communicated and consistently converted into pipeline and retention. • Engage directly with key customers to co-create AI solutions, gather strategic insight, and validate roadmap direction against real-world complexity. What You'll Bring: Required Skills: • 12+ years of experience in product management, applied AI, or a related field, with significant tenure in executive or senior VP-level product leadership. • Demonstrated experience setting AI strategy and driving AI-first transformation at scale across a product organization or business unit. • Deep understanding of machine learning, large language models, agentic AI frameworks, and how these capabilities translate into production-grade B2B product experiences. • Proven track record of building and scaling high-performing applied AI product teams in a fast-moving enterprise SaaS or fintech environment. • Fluency in FinTech data: how financial data is structured, how it flows across ERP systems, payment networks, and AR workflows, and why data quality and latency matter differently in financial contexts than in general SaaS. • Executive presence and communication skills that inspire confidence across the C-suite, board, customers, partners, and external audiences. • Strong commercial acumen — able to connect AI product investment directly to revenue growth, retention, and competitive differentiation. Preferred Skills: • Direct experience in Order to Cash, accounts receivable, cash application, collections, or B2B payments — either building products in this space or operating within it at enterprise scale. • Familiarity with the data structures and integration patterns common in AR automation: ERP connectors, remittance data, invoice line-item detail, payment status feeds, and buyer identity resolution. • Hands-on familiarity with agentic AI architectures, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or multi-model orchestration in enterprise production environments. • Track record of representing product vision externally — at conferences, in analyst briefings, or in strategic customer advisory settings. • Experience co-creating AI solutions with enterprise customers and translating those partnerships into roadmap impact and revenue. The expected base salary range for this position is $236,000 - $250,000 annually.
